<br />
Brace yourself - I have a <i>lot</i> of pictures to show you...<br />
<br />
Last weekend, I spent a couple of days in the beautiful village of Burley in the New Forest. Every year, they put on the Burley Show, which I was delighted to discover is as close as one can get to a village fair in this day and age. It was a day of vegetable and cake-baking competitions, tombola's, tractor displays and - my personal favourite - dog shows. There was even a very impressive falconry display from the <a href="http://www.rutland-falconry.com/" target="_blank">Rutland Falconry and Owl Centre</a>! What more could you possible want from a day out?<br />

<br />
Yesterday was my 28th birthday. I've never been one for big parties or making too much of a fuss on the day itself, but this year there was something I really wanted to do.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/swellvintage/14420221988" title="photo 1 by Frankie Murray, on Flickr"><img alt="photo 1" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3886/14420221988_9581a66558_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Happy birthday to me!</i><br />
<i><br /></i></div>
If you know me in real life or follow me on any social media channels, you'll know that I love (and I'm not using that term loosely - I really do <i>love</i>) all things Poirot. I'm a big fan of most murder mysteries and whodunnit-based stories, but Agatha Christie's Poirot has always been my favourite. I love the books, I love the TV series and, most of all, I bloody love that brilliant little Belgian.<br />
<br />
As the proud owner of the books, DVD collection and even a Poirot monkey (I'm not kidding), I decided to take the next step into the weird and wonderful world of fandom: a tattoo. My beautiful and amazing <a href="http://swellvintage.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/swell-family.html" target="_blank">Nana</a> kindly offered to cover it as my birthday present so that I will always be able to see it and think of her, making the whole thing doubly special. I found the perfect design to reflect his signature style and character, and decided to get it on my wrist facing me so I can look at it whenever I want without breaking my neck to see it.<br />
<br />
When the big day took myself off to <a href="http://www.tattooland.uk.com/" target="_blank">Tattooland</a> in Woking to get inked. Here are the results:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/swellvintage/14420508027" title="Poirot tattoo by Frankie Murray, on Flickr"><img alt="Poirot tattoo" height="397" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2906/14420508027_e1924c8e77_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/swellvintage/14626875313" title="Poirot tattoo by Frankie Murray, on Flickr"><img alt="Poirot tattoo" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3842/14626875313_15864859b2_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I absolutely love it and could not be happier. I got some amazing presents for my birthday this year and I love them all, but my new tattoo will forever go down as one of the most incredible gifts I've ever received. Thank you, <a href="http://swellvintage.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/swell-family.html" target="_blank">Nana</a>! I think Poirot himself would be proud.<br />
<br />
Have you got any tattoos? Is it wrong that I'm already itching for my next one?<br />
<br />
Much love,<br />

<br />
If you've met me in real life, chances are you've heard me talk about my two great loves in life (after my bearded man, family, friends etc., obviously). These loves are simple, but continue to be very important to me: the first is Poirot, and the second is dogs.<br />
<br />
I love dogs. Ever since I was very small, I've dreamed of owning one, but unfortunately it's never been the right time or circumstance. My father was never a "dog person", so I wasn't allowed one as a child. Since graduating university and joining the world of full-time employment, I've only ever lived in flats with limited space and free time. People have told me I should just get a dog regardless, but I truly believe you shouldn't get any kind of pet unless you have the time, space and means to dedicate to them. That being said, I still want to be in the company of dogs as much as possible.<br />
<br />
Enter <a href="http://borrowmydoggy.com/">Borrow My Doggy</a>.<br />
<br />
If you've never heard of it before, prepare to have your life changed. <a href="http://borrowmydoggy.com/">Borrow My Doggy</a> is a brilliant website that connects people that love dogs with owners that are happy to share their furry friends, or need someone to help out with walks, dog sitting and things like that - basically exactly what I've been looking for.<br />
<br />
I signed up straight away, and found a very beautiful Miniature Schnauzer puppy named Turtle that lived a mere 2 miles from me. I sent her owner a message, and fortunately Turtle's owner, Svezone, was just as lovely as her dog! We met up for a 'Welcome Woof' and all got on swimmingly. I'm happy to say that Turtle and I have been on a few doggy dates since then, and it's been brilliant. Turtle is so sweet and incredibly well-behaved. Even my family love it when she comes over, especially my little nephew. Whether we're going for walks, playing tug of war (usually with my slippers) or just relaxing in front of the TV, having Turtle around just makes the day better.<br />
<br />
This whole blog post is basically an excuse for me to show off some pictures of Turtle, because I'm really chuffed to have her as my little doggy friend. Until I'm in a position to have a dog of my own (fingers crossed it'll happen in the not-so-distant future), I'm really enjoying my Turtle time.<br />

<br />
Earlier this week, I was invited to the <a href="https://www.underbelly.co.uk/udderbelly-festival-at-southbank-centre" target="_blank">Udderbelly Festival</a> on London's Southbank to see show called <a href="https://www.underbelly.co.uk/node/5325256" target="_blank">A Simple Space</a>. I'd never heard of it before, but the promise of <i>"an amazing, uniquely no-frills show which champions the incredibly artistry of the human body over traditional circus gimmick</i>" was just too intriguing to resist.

<br /></div>
<a href="https://www.underbelly.co.uk/node/5325256" target="_blank">A Simple Space</a> provides exactly what it says on the tin: there are no frills, no elaborate costumes or flamboyant sets. The show is stripped back to put the entire focus on the performers and, let me tell you, there is <i>plenty</i> to see. I don't want to spoil the show too much for you in case you decide to go yourself (and you really, really should), but highlights include the performers falling from insane heights, standing on each others heads, throwing and flipping each other around like rag dolls and so much more. Here's a little video of the show to whet your appetite:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<br />
<a href="http://gravityandothermyths.com.au/" target="_blank">Gravity & Other Myths</a>, the creators and performers of the show, are an Australian acrobatics ensemble made up of six men and two women - all of whom are now my personal heroes. After seeing the show, I can completely understand why they have won so many awards and achieved recognition all over the world. Not only was each performer incredibly talented, mind blowing-ly strong and impossibly flexible, but they were also extremely witty and engaging. Rather than staying within the figurative walls of the stage, they would smile and laugh with the audience, inviting us to be in on the joke. It's nice to feel included, and the friendship and chemistry between each of them makes the show that much more enjoyable.<br />
<br />
To put it simply (pun intended), <a href="https://www.underbelly.co.uk/node/5325256" target="_blank">A Simple Space</a> is an incredible show. I spent the whole show with my mouth agape, occasionally muttering expletives in my utter astonishment. If you live in the London area or fancy taking a trip, I highly recommend booking tickets to see <a href="https://www.underbelly.co.uk/node/5325256" target="_blank">A Simple Space</a>. They're in London until 6th July 2014, and then they'll be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe from 28th - 30th August 2014. I guarantee you'll leave the show feeling happy, inspired and desperate to be more flexible.<br />
<br />
Much lovely,<br />

When I read that it was an event to celebrate the release of Maya Van Wagenen's book <i><a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Popular-Vintage-Wisdom-Modern-Memoir-ebook/dp/B00IIZJHXU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400436952&sr=8-1&keywords=maya+van+wagenen" target="_blank">Popular: Vintage Wisdom for a Modern Geek</a></i>, I was intrigued.<br />
<br />
I'll be honest: I'd never heard of Maya before this. A quick Google search told me that she was named TIME magazine's most influential teenager, and she recently won a major film deal with Dreamworks - pretty damn impressive, especially considering that Maya is only 15 years-old. When I was that age, my biggest achievement was customising my MySpace profile. Needless to say, my parents are very proud.<br />
<br />
When we arrived at Penguin's stunning offices, we were met with a number of adorable vintage stalls, featuring the likes of <a href="http://mrsstokessecrettea.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Secret Tea Party</a>, <a href="http://www.theresonlyoneamylaws.co.uk/" target="_blank">There is Only One Amy Laws</a> and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/RedBirdMakes" target="_blank">Red Bird Makes</a>. After having a browse of the various goods and enjoying a few delicious canapés, the legendary Jo Elvin, editor of Glamour magazine, chaired a Q&A with Maya. Maya's story is a fascinating one; after feeling like a social outcast for most of her young life and being bullied by the "cool kids" at the age of 13, Maya turned to a book called <i><a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Betty-Cornell-Teen-Age-Popularity-Guide-ebook/dp/B00JBS9DB4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1400436979&sr=8-3&keywords=maya+van+wagenen" target="_blank">Betty Cornell's Teen-age Popularity Guide</a></i>, which was written in the 1950s. With the help of her extremely supportive family, Maya decided to take the book chapter by chapter and follow the advice over the course of a year. From wearing pearls every day right through to wearing a girdle, Maya tried it all and kept a diary of her journey.<br />

Maya kindly signed my copy of her book. My head is high as we speak!</div>
<br />
Hearing Maya talk about hear experience was truly a delight. Not only is she incredibly eloquent, but she also spoke with such passion, sincerity and maturity. Since the event, I have read the book. I read it in just under a week, and it was charming from start to finish. I laughed, I shed a few tears, I smiled a <i>lot</i> and I even dug out my old pearl necklace. Maya is talented and compelling writer, and I highly recommend you pick up a copy of <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Popular-Vintage-Wisdom-Modern-Memoir-ebook/dp/B00IIZJHXU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400436979&sr=8-1&keywords=maya+van+wagenen" target="_blank">her book</a>. <div>
<br /></div>
Well well, look who it is...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's ME! I'm back, after a very long absence. How's it going?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Instead of dwelling on the fact that I've been gone so long or making a load of promises that it'll never happen again (because it probably will), I'm going to tell you all about my recent trip to Scotland. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's no secret that I bloody love Scotland. I've only ever been to Edinburgh, so when my bearded man told me that we'd be visiting Dunbar for his cousin's wedding, I was excited to see a different part of that beautiful land. Not only that, but we booked to stay in a tree house. Yes, you read that right - a TREEHOUSE. Like a modern-day Swiss Family Robinson, but a lot less Swiss. Needless to say, I was extra excited as we set off on the long drive to <a href="http://www.harvestmoonholidays.com/" target="_blank">Harvest Moon</a>. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But, here's the thing - none of us read the website or the booking information properly (we may or may not have been distracted by the pretty pictures...) and it turns out that despite the high-end, luxury nature of the accommodation, there was no electricity. None. Not even a smidge. Instead, we were presented with a fire stove for warmth/cooking with in the kitchen, and a number of hot water bottles for the bedrooms. I don't know if you know this, but the area by the coast in Scotland has a tendency to get <i>rather</i> nippy, so the fire stove soon became our very best friend. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are a few pics to set the scene:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our baaaaaa-shful neighbours. There were also chickens, rabbits and horses because...why not?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once I got over the fact that I had nowhere to plug my hair dryer in and sorted it so I could charge my phone in the car, I was pleasantly surprised at how well I adjusted to life as a woodsman. I quickly learned how to keep a fire going (top tip: lots of wood), and even managed to cook eggy bread without setting myself alight. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2926/14160399192_e917a74009_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2926/14160399192_e917a74009_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Making tea with the wood stove. Definitely worth the effort.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As you can see, the accommodation and the setting were rather stunning overall. While staying there was fun, having to build a fire and wait half an hour for it to be hot enough to boil a kettle before having a cup of tea was a bit of a faff. I'm also honest enough to admit that I am shallow, and I love my comfortable technology-filled life. Not having my hair straighteners to hand or WIFI for my phone made me enjoy the whole the whole experience a little less. I also really missed central heating, as the nights there can be bitterly cold. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I understand that a lot of people would love having no electricity, and would consider it a welcome break from modern life, but it's just not for me. If <a href="http://www.harvestmoonholidays.com/" target="_blank">Harvest Moon</a> invested in a couple of plug sockets and a heater for the bedrooms, I'd consider moving in. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Have you ever tried glamping? Could you survive without electricity for a whole three nights like I did? Tell me all about it!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Much love,</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Two days ago, I celebrated my 27th birthday. I can't say it was a shock - my birthday normally happens around that sort of time - but what has surprised me is how much has changed, and how much I've <i>learned</i>, in the space of a year. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I never thought I'd still be learning about myself this close to my 30's. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5510/9248854443_a45739a479.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5510/9248854443_a45739a479.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A photo of me with my new <a href="http://alice-menter.myshopify.com/" target="_blank">Alice Menter</a> necklace, taken earlier this month</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However, despite how this post may sound so far, I consider this to be a positive thing, and I want to share this with you. Here are a few things I've truly learned about myself over the last year:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>I'm starting to grey...and that's okay. </b>This exact scenario has happened, and continues to happen, on numerous occasions: I'm doing something in front of a mirror (brushing my teeth, doing my make-up, staring at my wonky face), and suddenly I'll see something shimmering in the reflection...something in my hair. Slowly, I comb my way through each section until I find the offending strand. I then pull it out and stare at it for a <i>really</i> long time, and if my boyfriend's home, I'll make him do it too (I know - what a lucky man...). But what I've come to realise is that it really doesn't matter. It's something most people go through, and it really doesn't look that bad. Plus, if Rogue from X-Men can pull it off, there's still hope for the likes of me.</li>
<li><b>I'm never going to be skinny, and that's okay too.</b><br />From the first day I started to wear grown up lady clothes to present day, I've always been a size 10 - 12. My weight has fluctuated over the years, but weirdly my dress size hasn't. For years, I dreamed of being skinny, and I'd get sad because I wasn't. But this year, I came to a realisation: I love food. I love cooking it, I love eating it and, more importantly, it makes me happy. I know that I will never be a size 6 or 8, and that's just fine. I'm still not 100% happy with my appearance (far from it), but the aim now is for me to stay happy and healthy, not be sad that I'm not smaller.</li>
<li><b>I like to be challenged.</b><br />This one was a real shocker for me, as I'm a pretty laid-back person on the whole. On my days off, I like to relax and do near to nothing but when I'm at work, it's a whole different story. I want to be challenged and I like to work hard for my money. Professionally, it's been a very interesting year for me, and I'm so grateful for all of the choices/mistakes I've made because I know exactly what I want to be doing and who I want to do it with. Better late than never, eh?</li>
<li><b>I love my nephew. </b><br />That probably sounds like a strange and obvious thing to say, but it's true - I love my nephew. Since he came into my life just over two years ago, it's been amazing. I've never been around a growing child before, and watching him develop over the last couple of years has been a real eye-opener. As a result of this love, however, I've found that I worry about him <i>constantly</i>. All the time. Even when I'm not around him. My sister laughs at me when I play in the garden with him because I shout, "Be careful!", "Get down!" and "Don't run!" the whole time. I've had a real insight into the raising of a child. and as a result, I'm in awe of all parents. Serious kudos to you.</li>
<li><b>I'm a big weirdo that writes self-indulgent blog posts about her boring life. </b><br />I think that one explains itself.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
Can you relate to my recent learnings? What have you learned about yourself over the last year? Please tell me in the comments so I feel less like a crazy person...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Much love,</div>

<br />
Hello friends!<br />
<br />
So I've decided that once a month (which is roughly the amount I blog these days anyway - whoops), I'm going to share THREE things that I really love or am enjoying at the moment. It will probably be a very shallow list of things, but hey! We are living in a material world, and I...aspire to be nothing like Madonna.<br />
<br />
Here are my three things for the month of April:<br />
<br />

Made with the most beautiful precious stones, all of <a href="http://www.sushilla.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sushilla's jewellery</a> is stunning, but this ring stole my heart straight away. I finally managed to get my hands on one this week (pun intended), and I don't think I could possibly love it more. The Star Leaf stone is SO intricately beautiful that I cannot stop staring at it. It's distracting me from my work and day-to-day life, but who cares? It even makes my sausage fingers look less sausage-y. My hands are very pleased with me. That sounded a bit rude, didn't it? Sorry. </li>

All of their unusual designs are engraved with lasers (modern, eh?) into the wood of your choice, and the delivery is insanely fast. I went for the Kraken because it is, for want of a far more eloquent word, awesome. I also ordered my sister one of their custom cases for her birthday, and they managed to capture the perfect face of my baby nephew beautifully. Please see both below.</li>

<br />
As I move further into my 20s, I've noticed that one thing is becoming increasingly common. I'm not talking about grey hairs or dark shadows under my eyes (although they're coming along nicely too) - I'm talking about <b>weddings</b>.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These days it feels like 90% of all the people I've ever known have gotten engaged lately, and as a result I'm going to a few weddings this year. So far I have three in the diary. Naturally, this has lead to a huge quandary in my lady brain - what the hell am I going to wear?!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As much as I would love to get a new and exciting outfit for each, I can't afford to. This doesn't mean I want to compromise on style, so I'm looking for a dress that looks nice <i>and</i> I won't get sick of wearing after wedding number one. Not only that, but I always struggle with knowing how formal I should go - is a evening gown acceptable? How smart is too smart? That's where you come in, my dear reader friend; I need your lovely eyes and brilliant brain to decide which dress to go for.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are a few options that I have found after endlessly trawling the internet:</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihf0RXl1dOEaqduv1oQ_hLaCD5OBBZh1dnFN5yFcQW8exTOqJMHaO9I18979Wb_52BupboHyGY33zws21foJV80LOnymLkRM3Qqw8lAi44xZHXmjkr5sp_FEQENMqCiOxczTXSYmtrEXFm/s1600/maps+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihf0RXl1dOEaqduv1oQ_hLaCD5OBBZh1dnFN5yFcQW8exTOqJMHaO9I18979Wb_52BupboHyGY33zws21foJV80LOnymLkRM3Qqw8lAi44xZHXmjkr5sp_FEQENMqCiOxczTXSYmtrEXFm/s1600/maps+dress.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br />Something Old - <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/122088601/1950s-dress-vintage-50s-dress-imaginary?ref=usr_faveitems" target="_blank">Vintage 1950s Imaginary Maps dress - £154</a></b><br />
I love the shape and style of this gorgeous dress. It is a little on the pricey side, but I do feel that good vintage is always an investment. I am a little concerned that it is on the informal side, and that the print will be a bit sickening after a while. What are your thoughts?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-fOTF_-08ea_UomobYCDp2O-3tcrrPyNztFAIfJ3HbfUSD9CrWC6CT_cm5zMARnnkj0W5eZ8eR1SG7o12kmkfKobj52CgezXmbXwL4C24Of3RSw4nONUdXHvwHylrOgW0uIOfgZd7CAsU/s1600/maxi.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-fOTF_-08ea_UomobYCDp2O-3tcrrPyNztFAIfJ3HbfUSD9CrWC6CT_cm5zMARnnkj0W5eZ8eR1SG7o12kmkfKobj52CgezXmbXwL4C24Of3RSw4nONUdXHvwHylrOgW0uIOfgZd7CAsU/s1600/maxi.jpeg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Something New - <a href="http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Maxi-Dress-In-Vintage-Floral-Print-With-70s-Sleeve/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2665969&SearchQuery=maxi%20dress&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=200&sort=3&clr=Multi&r=2" target="_blank">ASOS Maxi Dress In Vintage Floral Print With 70's Sleeve - £48</a></b><br />
The beautiful floral print of this dress caught my eye straight away, and I love the mix of colours. This also happens to be the most affordable option on the list, but is it too informal for a wedding? Also, one of the weddings is in September - would I freeze to death?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7wWy9mQBqQLSCr5AANa2sLCM2QnY69i3GbAAvqS-nxe1riHNvpvJtAUEusIr2Eic05dun012k7qCgX2sWd9fijR4kaaibSr5wiU5IF00uhq5cBr626N_H_zwjADVVb7OrB7RfKvfCtDpb/s1600/dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7wWy9mQBqQLSCr5AANa2sLCM2QnY69i3GbAAvqS-nxe1riHNvpvJtAUEusIr2Eic05dun012k7qCgX2sWd9fijR4kaaibSr5wiU5IF00uhq5cBr626N_H_zwjADVVb7OrB7RfKvfCtDpb/s400/dress.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>(Not really) Something Borrowed - <a href="http://www.coggles.com/item/Great-Plains/J1CN9-Sandbanks-Linen-Tiered-Rosanna-Dress/BXM5" target="_blank">Great Plains Sandbanks Linen Tiered Rosanna Dress - £75</a></b><br />
Although this dress is on the plain side, I think it would act as a nice base for a variety of accessories. I love the cut and colour too, but the fact that it's made of linen makes me a little nervous - will it be too much of a daytime dress in the flesh? I do have receptions to go to too!<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlX5-_a-9qdUuVH15UOcED9VasU991rbbSj_oyc9Thkl2qx4XgjOjdzkUf9vlXavNWSkf36R1VrZuObQFPEpz7gitFSvr8O2dcOUDrO9poD6INyMZx6bfaAYdeqJnOZsVMxmbHHp4KzRxw/s1600/blue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlX5-_a-9qdUuVH15UOcED9VasU991rbbSj_oyc9Thkl2qx4XgjOjdzkUf9vlXavNWSkf36R1VrZuObQFPEpz7gitFSvr8O2dcOUDrO9poD6INyMZx6bfaAYdeqJnOZsVMxmbHHp4KzRxw/s1600/blue.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Something Blue</b> - <b><a href="http://www.asos.com/Coast/Coast-Estee-Jersey-Built-Up-Maxi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2719468&SearchQuery=maxi%20dress&Rf-200=3&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Cobalt&r=2" target="_blank">Coast Estee Jersey Built Up Maxi Dress - £160</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know this is quite a pricey number, but I think this dress has the potential for lots of versatility. Instead of changing my dress for each wedding, I could get a mix of different accessories and change the look for each occasion, plus the beautiful blue colour would work for both summer and winter...but is it too evening-y? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So there we have it: four potential options. Which one do YOU think I should go for? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments, and be as brutally honest as you like. If you don't like any of them, I will go back to the drawing board - just let me know! I respect and appreciate your opinion more than anything. </div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<br />
Happy New Year, my Swell friends!<br />
<br />
So I didn't blog for the whole of December - whoops! Instead of giving you a myriad of excuses, I'm just going to promise to be better and try to do more posts in 2013.<br />
<br />
For my first post of the year, I will be reviewing a new pair of glasses, courtesy of the good folks at <a href="http://lensway.co.uk/">Lensway.co.uk</a>. I must confess that despite being terribly short-sighted, I often don't wear any glasses, so I was looking forward to having a good pair of frames to inspire me to actually wear them! That being said, I already have a pair I love from <a href="http://swellvintage.blogspot.co.uk/2011/07/creating-spectacle.html">London Retro</a>, but it's nice to have different options to choose from on a daily basis.<br />
<br />
After having a good ol' browse of their site, I was really impressed by the wide variety of spec styles on offer. Finally, after hours of internal debate, I settled on a pair I liked - the "<a href="http://www.lensway.co.uk/frames/derek-cardigan-7004-rootbeer/prod27059.html?rsView=1">Derek Cardigan</a>" frames (who doesn't love a cardigan?) in the colour "<a href="http://www.lensway.co.uk/frames/derek-cardigan-7004-rootbeer/prod27059.html?rsView=1">Rootbeer</a>".<br />
<br />
I was a little nervous about ordering glasses without physically trying them on first, but I had no reason to worry as the frames turned out to be perfect! A slightly different shape to what I usually go for, but still flattering and comfortable. I also really like the clear plastic they're made from as it makes me look a bit cooler than I really am.<br />

Not only did the glasses look good, they were also really comfortable. I wore them for a full working day (from about 8am till 8pm), and hardly noticed them at all. In the past, I've had a real issue with glasses feeling heavy on my apparently soft head, but these felt nice and light.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend a pair of specs from <a href="http://lensway.co.uk/">Lensway.co.uk</a>. Not only do they have a lot of choice, but they're also very reasonably priced. My pair cost £89 (including the lenses), and came with a good sturdy case and even a little screwdriver should I need to tighten them up. Thanks for making my vision better and more stylish, <a href="http://lensway.co.uk/">Lensway.co.uk</a>!</div>

This year, I have promised to do <i>at least </i>one nice thing a day for someone else. It can be big or it can be small; the only rule is that it has to be <b>nice</b>. To help me make sure I do it, I've started a little Tumblr. If you're interested, you can read all about it over at <a href="http://niceonefrankie.tumblr.com/">http://niceonefrankie.tumblr.com</a>. <br />
Please excuse the rather gangster title of this post. I promise you it's all wholesome and smooth sailing from here onwards...<br />
<br />
If you know me in the real life world or follow me on Twitter, you may know that I am moving into a few flat VERY SOON! Aside from how physically and mentally dulling moving can be, I am very excited, as this will be the first time I have free reign to do what I like with my living space in terms of decorating (providing my bearded man is happy with it too, of course...).<br />
<br />
My first thought when buying things for my new flat? Dogs. I love dogs. It's been my life-long dream to own a dog, but as I'm not in a position to have one just yet (don't just own a dog for the sake of it, people), I plan to make up for it in other areas.<br />
<br />
Since seeing this Dog Chart Print by <a href="http://www.pollyhorner.com/">Polly Horner</a> in <a href="http://www.magmabooks.com/">Magma</a> a while ago, it's been at the top of my lust list. I love Polly's style, and she's chosen some rather brilliant dogs for it. If she had a Beagle on there too, all of my dreams would come true...<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As if that weren't enough, <a href="http://www.pollyhorner.com/">Polly Horner</a> has now also done a range of pillow cases for <a href="http://www.magmabooks.com/">Magma</a> - I've died and gone to doggie heaven!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At £30 a pop, they're not cheap, so I plan to maybe buy one a month. It's still cheaper than buying a real dog!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also spotted these ones in Inspitalfields (cleverly located in Spitalfields!) - I just love a dog in uniform...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What do you think of my choice of doggie-decor? Have I gone too far? Or not far enough?</div>

<br />
This week I was fortunate enough to see <a href="http://www.singinintherain.co.uk/">Singin' in the Rain</a> at the Palace Theatre in London's beloved West End. As the 1952 MGM film is one of my all-time favourites, I was both excited and nervous to see the show. Although the reviews have been nothing short of excellent, I was uncertain as to whether it would be able to reach the very high bar the film had set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8184/8138035911_79e6ba5f85_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8184/8138035911_79e6ba5f85_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
Boy, was I wrong...<br />
<br />
Without gushing everywhere like an unexpectedly heavy rain storm (see what I did there?), <a href="http://www.singinintherain.co.uk/">Singin' in the Rain</a> was an utter joy. The acting, the dancing, the singin'...all of it was simply incredible. This will probably sound very stupid, but sometimes I forget just how talented people can be, and seeing a whole stage over flowing with it was just astounding. All I'm saying is, I am currently craving tap shoes and a personal sense of rhythm...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8055/8137879539_9b3127bf5c_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8055/8137879539_9b3127bf5c_z.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The stand out performance for me was Katherine Kingsley as Lina Lamont. Not only did she add her own unique stamp to the character, but she did it with elegance and style. She even had a song that wasn't in the film - definitely a big treat for any Lina Lamont fans out there.<br />
<br />
As if that weren't enough, let's talk about one of the most iconic moments in film history being brought to life on the stage. You may think it would be impossible to recreate Don Lockwood singin' and dancin' in the rain with the same excitement and romance that was done in the film, but you'd be wrong. Seeing it rain on stage in itself was something I will not forget in a hurry. Oh, and if you want to see the show but don't fancy getting wet, I wouldn't sit in the first ten rows. Just trust me on that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8326/8137879583_682fa20c54_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8326/8137879583_682fa20c54_z.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The only part that didn't really work for me, and it's a very small part, was the accent of the show's Cathy Selden, played by Scarlett Strallen. While her singing and dancing were all top notch, I felt her over-the-top New York accent went against the whole reason for her character. In the film, Cathy has a gorgeous, silky-smooth voice to contrast the sharp, headache-inducing to voice of Lina, but there were moments in the show when her voice was equally as novelty-sounding. I'm not sure why they chose to go this way for the stage version, but perhaps I'm just too enamoured with the film.<br />
<br />
Overall, would I recommend <a href="http://www.singinintherain.co.uk/">Singin' in the Rain</a>? Heck yes! If you like classic songs, incredible dancing and an all-round great night out, I'm pretty sure you will love the show as much as I did. It would be the perfect family outing, especially with Christmas drawing ever closer...<br />
<br />
If you fancy seeing it for yourself, you can book tickets over at <a href="http://www.singinintherain.co.uk/">www.singinintherain.co.uk</a>.<br />
<br />
Until next time, vintage fans...<br />

<div>
Hello friends! It's been a while. How the devil are you?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So at the weekend, the very kind folks at <a href="http://www.aussiehair.com/uk/">Aussie Hair</a> invited me along to a spa to celebrate their wonderful Three Minute Miracle hair saviour and hear an exciting announcement. I had to wait all day to hear their big secret, but the good news is you can hear it right now!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Drum roll please...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Aussie are releasing a brand new collection of hair care products! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8319/8040626001_998b64e840.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8319/8040626001_998b64e840.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Their "Miracle Shine" range was created to make your hair as gorgeous and glossy as possible. With Australian Ginseng, pearl powder and a whole load of delicious fruit extracts, not only does the whole range smell good enough to eat, but it also does a world of good for your hair. Don't believe me? Let me show you...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, I'm no hair model (or any kind of model at that!), and I'm definitely not very good at taking pictures of myself, but I wanted to show you just how shiny the Miracle Shine Shampoo, Conditioner and Three Minute Miracle made my hair after just one wash. I apologies for my ridiculous face/poses/angles in advance...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't know about you, but personally I like the last picture best. Jennifer Aniston ain't got nothin' on me...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In conclusion, the new Miracle Shine range from Aussie does exactly what it says on the tin (or rather 'plastic bottle'). My hair is noticeably softer, feels in better condition and, of course, looks a hell of a lot shinier. The complete range of products will be available to buy in shops RIGHT NOW, so get your purse and hair ready to shine!</div>

If she were alive today, she'd be 86 - a pretty reasonable age to live to by modern standards. </span></span><div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; ">I don't know about you, but I can't help but wonder what she'd be doing right now if she was still alive. Perhaps she'd still be making movies, playing the part of the ultimate glamour -Nana, or maybe she'd be overseeing the design of her own fashion label or perfume range like Elizabeth Taylor did. Sadly, that's just another thing about Marilyn that we'll never know.</div><div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; ">Although today is a sad occasion, I want to celebrate the short life of this incredible woman by sharing with you my top three favourite Marilyn Monroe films, as well as some of my favourite images of the woman herself. To this day, people dismiss Monroe as a airhead blonde bimbo, but the fact remains she was a very talented actress who had more potential than she had the opportunity to realise. And boy, could she move!</div><div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; ">In no particular order...</div><div><ol><li><span style="font-family:Georgia, serif;"><b>Gentlemen Prefer Blondes</b><br /><br /><a href="http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/upload/119345458844808596_I9loLcXi_f.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 554px; height: 435px;" src="http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/upload/119345458844808596_I9loLcXi_f.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>When I first saw this film as a child, I was absolutely blown away by the glamour and beauty of both Marilyn and her co-star, Jane Russell. "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" is still an anthem for money-hungry women today, which just shows you how much of an impact a film can still have nearly 59 years later!<br /><br /><br /></span></li><li><span style="font-family:Georgia, serif;"><b>Some Like It Hot</b><br /><br /><a href="http://media-cache-ec4.pinterest.com/upload/285697170081176959_tT1Ko6nW_f.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 511px; height: 594px;" src="http://media-cache-ec4.pinterest.com/upload/285697170081176959_tT1Ko6nW_f.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>One of her last and arguably most well-known films, <i>Some Like It Hot</i> has been named one of the greatest comedies of all time repeatedly over the years. Although it has been said that Marilyn was a nightmare to work with on set, that doesn't stop her from shining alongside the likes of Jack Lemmon (possibly my favourite man in the world) and Tony Curtis. Jello on springs indeed!<br /><br /><b><br /></b></span></li><li><span style="font-family:Georgia, serif;"><b>The Seven Year Itch</b><br /><br /><a href="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/119345458845097070_pzL5rePp_f.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 582px;" src="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/119345458845097070_pzL5rePp_f.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>Marilyn is the face - and body - of temptation in this film, but still manages to play the likeable, loveable girl next door (or should I say upstairs?) to perfection. The image of her standing over the subway vent may be one of the most famous Marilyn photos, but I love this one. Take it away, Sarah!<div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div>This summer 50s style dresses are a great option for the vintage fan, as their versatility in looks makes them so desirable. Here are some of the 50s style dresses, which are trending on the <a href="https://marketplace.asos.com/women/dresses">Asos Marketplace</a> and which can give you some great style inspiration this summer:<div><br /><br /><div><b>1. Dolce Vita Chic</b><br /><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7252/7599021420_8694dbcc2d_o.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 392px; height: 507px;" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7252/7599021420_8694dbcc2d_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>This dress is an early 50s (and late 40s) style Dolores pencil dress. With its gypsy style puff sleeves and figure hugging fit, this dress is an instant winner for vintage lovers.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><b>2. Rockabilly Polka Dot</b><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8433/7599020942_54805f3260_o.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 445px; height: 489px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8433/7599020942_54805f3260_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>This classic rockabilly polka dot dress has been given a twist with the orange colour, but it’s still classic 50s. The black petticoat just peeking out below the hemline adds that extra vintage flair. </div><div><br /><br /><b>3. Classic Sundress</b><br /></div><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8017/7599021092_f9a06d29cf.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 411px; height: 500px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8017/7599021092_f9a06d29cf.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><div>No 50s style collection would be complete without the classic 50s sundress. The pearls add that desired classic chic feel to the outfit.</div><div><br /><br /><b>4. Bold Broidere Anglaise</b><br /><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7277/7599021262_7443f4e6a6_o.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 496px; height: 483px;" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7277/7599021262_7443f4e6a6_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>This Broidere Anglaise dress is a 50s alternative to the classic sundress. The stunning turquoise really stands out, and the style of this dress opens up many accessory options for different looks.</div><div><br />Do you have a favourite 50s style dress? </div><div><br />If you like these styles or want to see some more, <a href="https://marketplace.asos.com/women/dresses">visit the site for vintage dresses at Asos Marketplace</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div>Interested in writing a guest post for Swell Vintage? Bologna has plenty of hidden gems, but you have to be prepared to do a bit of walking. Fortunately, the city is so beautiful that walking around it is anything but a chore!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8026/7156217615_2870e8e3b5.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 333px; height: 500px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8026/7156217615_2870e8e3b5.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">We found 'Memoires', an absolutely stunning vintage shop, just around the corner from the Blogville Apartment. Not only was it full of wonderful old brick-a-brac, postcards, jewellery and ornaments, but it was also very reasonably priced. As if that wasn't enough, the shop owners could not have been more friendly or welcoming despite the fact we spoke little to no Italian between us. We all walked away with our shopping bags fuller and our purses a little lighter!</div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8162/7341783326_8cff35b54f.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8162/7341783326_8cff35b54f.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8022/7156609247_c5f8852b05.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8022/7156609247_c5f8852b05.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8022/7156609247_c5f8852b05.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8146/7341823254_00bdfde1bd.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">When we heard there was a second hand market in a Church square a little way out of the town, we knew we had to go and check it out. Unfortunately many of the items were a little too large/delicate for the flight home, but just looking around was enough for me. <a href="http://www.akeela.co.uk/">Akeela</a> also managed to find a dress for 2 euros - amazing!</div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156624759_2e733790b4.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156624759_2e733790b4.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156624759_2e733790b4.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8028/7156644141_190ae3903b.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156624759_2e733790b4.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7224/7156584245_74b47fcc7b.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156624759_2e733790b4.jpg" style="font-weight: normal; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8143/7156588989_a188b50eb7.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><b>Sleeping</b><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">Aside from staying at the brilliant Blogville apartment for two nights, we were also lucky enough to spend our last night at the beautiful <a href="http://www.art-hotel-orologio.it/">Art Hotel Orologio</a> in Bologna.</div><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8009/7341857632_c993f2fcc8.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8009/7341857632_c993f2fcc8.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8009/7341857632_c993f2fcc8.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7214/7156657843_ecb15f5b82.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8009/7341857632_c993f2fcc8.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7217/7341867384_fe30ea9bae.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8011/7156668449_55c3c18d33.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 333px; height: 500px;" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8011/7156668449_55c3c18d33.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><div style="font-weight: normal; ">For those of you who don't speak Italian, 'orologio' means 'clocks', and the hotel was chock full of the most stunning and ornate clocks you could possible imagine! This hotel is perfect for any vintage lover, as it's so classically decorated in a stunning 20s/30s art deco style. As an Agatha Christie obsessive, I couldn't help but imagine it to be the setting of a Poirot novel, with its rich coloured wallpapers and stunning features in each room. There was even a lady statue on our walls! Not only were the beds comfortable and the bathrooms gorgeous, but the staff at the <a href="http://www.art-hotel-orologio.it/">Art Hotel Orologio</a> were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Christina, the owner, even took the time to join us for breakfast to tell us all about the various <a href="http://www.bolognarthotels.it/">Art Hotels</a> they own across Bologna. When I go back to Bologna (which I am planning to do very soon!), I will definitely be staying at this hotel again as not only is it gorgeous, but it's also right in the center of town - perfect!</div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br /></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">So that's the end of my series about Bologna! <br />
If you follow me on Twitter, you will already know that a couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to travel to Bologna, Italy to be apart of their <a href="http://www.blogville-emiliaromagna.com/">Blogville</a> initiative. <a href="http://www.blogville-emiliaromagna.com/">Blogville</a>, created by the tourist board of the Emilia Romagna region, gives bloggers the opportunity to stay at an apartment in the centre of Bologna and Rimini and live as the locals do.<br />
<br />
When I was introduced to the project by my good friend and fellow travel buddy <a href="http://www.akeela.co.uk/">Akeela Bhattay</a>, I couldn't help but think the whole thing sounded a bit too good to be true! My sceptical horror movie-loving brain concluded that there had to be some sort of catch...either we were about to become the stars of Hostel 4 (how many of those films are there now? I'm very behind...), or we were going to sold into the black market of Italy. So I packed my bags and decided to go anyway - and boy, am I glad I did!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8145/7156178533_935fed5728.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8145/7156178533_935fed5728.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The UK blogger crew! From left to right: <a href="http://londonplinth.blogspot.co.uk/">Katie Antoniou</a>, me and <a href="http://www.akeela.co.uk/">Akeela Bhattay</a></div>
<br />
I saw so much in the few days I was in Bologna, so instead of boring you with a single long winded 30 page blog post, I've decided to break them up into delicious bite-sized parts. I don't know how many parts there are going to be in total as I'm just not that organised, so keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks!<br />
<br />
This post is going to be all about what I wore on my travels around Bologna, as this is a fashion blog after all. I warn you now - there are outfit photos of me in this post. If you regularly read my blog (thanks for that, by the way), you'll know I never do outfit posts, but my thinking is that as this was a special trip, special allowances must be made. Don't worry, this won't happen often...<br />
<br />
In order to keep my suitcase as light as possible, I decided to take staple pieces that I knew I could rely on whatever the weather. Arguably the most important piece in my travel wardrobe was this amazing maxi dress from <a href="http://www.hotsquash.com/products/maxidress?mc=13&sc=16">HotSquash</a>. Not only was it so comfortable and easy to wear, but it also features very clever material that keeps you cool in the heat! Genius or what? I really works too. I'll definitely be investing in more of their pieces for the summer...when we eventually get some heat!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156877117_dfe65bcbf5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8015/7156877117_dfe65bcbf5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm also so glad that I brought this hat from <a href="http://www.hm.com/gb/product/96823?article=96823-C">H&M</a>, as it proved to be a hair lifesaver! My hair is naturally very curly and turns into Jane Austin-style ringlets at the slightest sign of moisture, so this hat covered up the mess and also kept my face out of the sun - perfect!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I am officially in love with my <a href="http://www.londonretro.com/">London Retro</a> prescription sunglasses. As someone who is a bit scared of contact lenses but still wants to be able to see in the sun, they really made my trip. I love the wayfarer style frame, and they were so comfortable to wear all day. I have the exact same frame (the 'Shoreditch' to fit my East London stereotype), and I can't recommend them enough. </div>

I also wore this paisley print maxi dress from <a href="http://www.yumidirect.co.uk/women.html?brand=150">Uttam</a>, as I love the fullness of it. The low cut also meant that I could possible catch a little bit of sun, although with my pale skin reflecting the rays that was never very likely...</div>

<br />
Last week I popped along to the <a href="http://www.newlook.com/">New Look</a> AW12 press day to see what goodies they have lined up for next season, and let me tell you - you are in for a treat!<br />
<br />
If I had to describe <a href="http://www.newlook.com/">New Look</a>'s Autumn/Winter collection in a single sentence, it would be "90s grunge glamour with a modern kick in the face". What does that mean, you ask? Take a look for yourself!<br />

Chunky knits, accents of leather and laser cutting, sharp studs and intricate embellishment - don't you just love it all? The whole collection is the perfect mix of 'My So-Called Life' crossed with a darker, edgier Blossom. <a href="http://www.newlook.com/">New Look</a> have always been known and dearly loved for their shoes, and this season they've really outdone themselves. Who knew you could get such high end styles without having to sell a kidney?! And don't get me started on their collars!</div>

The people are Scout aren't looking for a supermodel. You don't have to be 6ft, skinny or have perfect skin to win this prize. All you need is your own unique style! Here's what you could win:</div>

On Friday, I was fortunate enough to visit the <a href="http://www.tusting.co.uk/">Tusting</a> warehouse so see how they make their amazingly beautiful leather goods. I have been a fan of <a href="http://www.tusting.co.uk/">Tusting</a>'s incredible handbags for a while now, so I was extra excited to see how they are made.<br />

The whole day was so much fun. Not only was I in brilliant company surrounded by so many great bloggers, but the <a href="http://www.tusting.co.uk/">Tusting</a> warehouse is, quite simply, a dream factory. I wish I could put into words how wonderful and intoxicating the rich aroma of leather is and how buttery soft each piece feels to touch, but hopefully these pictures will give you a rough idea of how amazing the whole experience was. To quote their website, <a href="http://www.philosophyskincare.co.uk/">philosophy</a> is a brand that "that approaches personal care from a skin care point of view, while celebrating the beauty of the human spirit". This ethos appeals to me greatly because, to be perfectly honest with you, my poor skin gets put through hell on a somewhat regular basis. I wear make-up nearly every day (apparently far too much, according to my dear Mother), I'm fairly certain I exfoliate too often (it just feels so good!) and I suffer from the occasional but nonetheless unpleasant break outs. It's nice to know that someone out there is thinking about the good of my skin as well as my "inner beauty", as it were.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was extremely excited to try <a href="http://www.philosophyskincare.co.uk/">philosophy</a>'s famous purity cleanser. Not only has it won awards, but it also promises to "to gently cleanse, tone and melt away all face and eye makeup in one simple step, while lightly hydrating the skin". Sounds pretty good, eh?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been using the cleanser on and off for over a week now, and I must say I am very impressed with it. It smells lovely, foams and rinses off well and somehow manages to leave my skin squeaky clean yet supple and moisturised at the same time. It definitely helped with an untimely pre-lady time break out too, and it did it in a <i>nice</i> way. It didn't dry out my skin to get rid of them, it just gave it a good ol' clean deep down. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After using these philosophy products, I am officially a convert to <a href="http://www.philosophyskincare.co.uk/">philosophy </a>products as well as their way of thinking. And the best part is I can continue to wear lots of make-up as I know my purity cleanser can handle it - score!</div>

As most of you fellow Brits will know, today is St George's Day. I've never been 100% sure why the day a saint allegedly killed a dragon has become a day to celebrate English pride, but instead of questioning it I've decided to go with it. I am British after all.<br />
<br />
We English do a few things pretty well - afternoon tea, tennis matches, inventing clever slang swear words that American's can't pull off - but there is one thing I think we do bloody brilliantly. Any guesses?<br />
<br />
FASHION!<br />
<br />
Not only is the UK, London in particular, famed for having a unique and diverse style, but it's also home to so many incredibly talented designers with a seemingly endless amount of new ones popping up all the time. We all know and love the big ones (Mulberry, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen - I could go on and on...), but today I want to share my love for five emerging designers that I am mildly obsessed with. I can't tell you how hard it is to pick just five. If I had more time, I could write about hundreds! <br />
<br />
Be prepared to fall head over ultra high heels...<br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><a href="http://www.drawinlight.co.uk/">Draw In Light</a></b><br />
If you ever read my styling blog (*cough* <a href="http://frankiemurraystyling.blogspot.co.uk/">Frankie Murray Styling</a> *cough*), you'll already be fully aware of how much I adore this incredibly innovative design duo. Each of their ever so dreamy pieces is printed using free-hand silk-screen techniques, which is why each item is completely individual. Not only is everything they make insanely beautiful, but their pieces are also incredibly comfortable! I am lucky enough to own one of their dresses, and it feels like wearing a very light and stylish nightie. Their Autumn/Winter collections never fail to make my secret inner goth's heart skip a beat and dribble a bit. Too much information? Sorry.<br />

<b><br /><br /><a href="http://www.charlottetaylorltd.com/">Charlotte Taylor</a></b><br />
Yet another designer that I talk about a lot over on <a href="http://frankiemurraystyling.blogspot.co.uk/">my other blog</a> (just go and <a href="http://frankiemurraystyling.blogspot.co.uk/">have a look</a> already, then maybe I'll shut up...)! <a href="http://www.charlottetaylorltd.com/">Charlotte Taylor</a> has recently become massively sought after and loved for her adorably quirky and unique prints, which seem to get even cuter season after season. I mean, who wouldn't want a dress covered in sweet little bumble bees that won't sting the crap out of you?! I defy you to look at Charlotte's pieces (ideally over at my favourite website, <a href="http://www.youngbritishdesigners.com/">YoungBritishDesigners.com</a>) and not fall in love. Go on - try it!<br />
<br />

<br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<div>
<b><a href="http://www.davidlongshaw.co.uk/">David Longshaw</a></b></div>
<div>
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I love fashion that tells a story, and no one tells a story quite like Mr Longshaw. Whether it's a haunting tale of a murdered loved one or the biography of the much-loved Maude the fashion mouse, David creates a surreal and magical world to draw his fashion inspiration from. The result? Unbelievably beautiful pieces made to fashion forward designs. I've been lucky enough to use some of David's pieces for a photoshoot I styled for <a href="http://www.tantrummagazine.co.uk/">Tantrum Magazine</a> (coming VERY soon!), and I can't tell you what an absolute joy it was. Each item is truly a work of art.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8003/7107553761_04aa8a5058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8003/7107553761_04aa8a5058.jpg" width="368" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<b><a href="http://www.tusting.co.uk/">TUSTING</a></b></div>
<div>
I must confess that I may have a slight bias towards this brand as they are looked after by the lovely people at <a href="http://www.pushpr.co.uk/">Push PR</a>, but that does not detract from the genuine love I have for their beautiful leathery goods. The very clever folks over at <a href="http://www.tusting.co.uk/">TUSTING</a> have been working with leather for over 130 years (that's beyond vintage!), so it's safe to say they know what they're doing. For years I wanted a Mulberry handbag, but now I'm saving for a Kimbolton of my very own! But the question is, which colour to go for?! There are so many options!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.uk.all.biz/img/uk/catalog/37245.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.uk.all.biz/img/uk/catalog/37245.png" width="307" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><a href="http://www.aytengasson.com/">Ayten Gasson</a></b><br />
Last, but certainly by no means least, is my favourite lingerie designer <a href="http://www.aytengasson.com/">Ayten Gasson</a>. Not only is the woman behind it all, Ayten Roberts, a very good friend of mine, but the woman is also bloody talented! Her pieces are all about luxury, mixing sweeping silks and lace trims to make lingerie that is unashamedly sexy, yet perfectly refined and elegant. As if that weren't enough, all of her goodies are designed and manufactured right here in the UK, which she was doing way before the likes of Mary Portas. Go and have a look at her site right now!
